Shaggy coming to Ghana

A major international music event featuring Grammy and World Music award winning reggae/pop superstar, Shaggy is scheduled to take place in Accra to climax the 7th anniversary celebrations of the national cellular service provider, Spacefon.

Dubbed Spacefon Music Fiesta, the event will see the superstar perform at two main concerts in Accra, at the International Conference Centre on Saturday, January 3, and at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, January 4, 2004. As an important aspect of our social life, it was easy for Spacefon to choose music as a platform to promote their brand.

As part of their promise to “give their patrons more, this musical extravaganza, designed and produced for Spacefon by Charter House, the event management company, aims to provide general entertainment for the public.”

In their seven years, Spacefon, besides consistently improving their service and expanding their reach to most parts of the country, has been involved in a variety of socially responsible programmes that benefit the communities in which they operate.

Corporate donations to charities, support to orphanages, the building of school blocks in deprived communities, and recently an exercise to feed homeless and street children dubbed Feed The Needy, which saw the feeding of over 2000 children, are some of the ways Spacefon has contributed to the community.

After celebrating a local musician in the newly instituted Spacefon Legend Nite earlier in the year, the company thought an international act would be a good culmination of a great year for the company.

While neighbouring African countries like Nigeria, and South Africa have regularly played host to a number of hot world-class entertainers such as Usher, Sisquo, Joe Thomas, Ginnwine and of course Shaggy himself, they don’t make it to Ghana, owing to the high cost of promoting such shows.

The Space Music Fiesta, however, seeks to change this by promoting such high profile shows and subsidizing the cost of tickets to enable everyone to be a part of the unforgettable experience.

“We hope that these concerts will help bridge the gap between Ghanaian and international musicians, as well as give our valued customers and all music lovers an exciting start to the new year,” says Fouad Chalabi, Marketing Manager of Spacefon.
