Screen Kissing Is Real : Actress

Actress Yvonne Okoro has taken a different stance towards the perception most of her movie pals give when explaining kissing scenes in movies.

Yvonne, who wears one of the most beautiful smiles in Ghana’s movie industry, said there is nothing like fake kissing as some of her colleagues seem to be suggesting and noted that movie fans who are not inclined with movie production should take such claims with a pinch of salt.

“Kissing is real. I don’t know what else you can do about it. How can we fake kissing? It is real.I have never seen any unreal kissing before,” she said in an exclusive interview at the Silverbird Cinema last week when her latest movie, ‘The Game,’ was screened for the media.

Yvonne confirmed that she and co-actor John Dumelo reportedly kissed during shooting. The actress, who hit the limelight via Venus Films’ ‘Beyonce’, however disclosed that kissing in movies is not an easy thing to do, considering its health implications. She confessed that is one of her headaches in her chosen career.

According to Yvonne, she kisses or accepts any romantic role if the role is relevant to the entire story. However, she has no business playing such roles if it is not necessary.“Obviously, I won’t say it is so easy when I get up on set and start kissing people. It is not, I mean, this is somebody you don’t know and you have to kiss him. First of all, you have to even think about hygiene and his personal health. But, because it is your job, you have to do it and do it right.”

The supporting actress in ‘Beyonce’ has a passion for acting and has always done it as a hobby. She made her first appearance in 2002 when she featured in ‘Sticking to Promise’, and later in the soap opera ‘Tentacles,’ both produced by Theo Akatugba.

Yvonne had a successful career before she left for France to further her education some years back. She enrolled at the Universite de Norte where she studied French Civilization and Culture and also did a bit of Drama and Marketing. She returned home a few months ago to continue her career. The actress, with a Ghanaian mother and Nigerian father, said industry players are happy about her return; but unfortunately, she said she will be saying bye to the movie industry late this year.

She will be going to school to study Law and will not be returning for acting after school.

Currently, she doesn’t see herself as a threat to other top actresses, as some fans see her. “Maybe you should ask the other actresses if I am a threat. That is good if they see me as a threat. But why should they? Like I always say, we are different people. Why do they have to see me as a threat?

I am doing what I am supposed to do and they are also doing theirs. At the end of the day, it is not about what we do now that matters, it is what we will become later.”
