Scratch Studios outdoors Owura

Scratch Studios over the weekend added to its stable of artistes with the launch of Wizard guitarist Owura’s debut album dubbed Just Imagine. The 33-year-old guitarist has formally been inducted into the Scratch gallery of artistes with the launch of his album, multifaceted. The album is a mixture of contemporary jazz, laced with African rhythms to create the syncos sound.

The launch was graced by a galaxy of showbiz celebrities from Ben Braku, Charles Amoah through to hiplife stars such as Nana Boro and music aficionados like Carlos Sakyi. In a chat with Hitz FM, Owura K expressed his excitement at the launch of his album.

Highlife star Ben Braku also shared his impressions about Owura K with Hitz FM describing Owura as an exceptional guitarist.

The guitarist thrilled patrons of the Scratch Music Lounge with a collection of songs from his debut album.

The high point of the launch was when he was joined on stage by Simigwahene Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Ben Brako, Steve Bedi and Dela Botri to regale the audience with a medley of hits.

Other performers on the night included Steve Bedi whose album was also released on the Scratch label a few months ago as well as Paulette Broohm Owura who is a seasoned Ghanaian guitarist and has been referred to as the Carlos Santana of his generation.

Born on 27th June 1978 in Akyim-Tafo in the Eastern Region Owura began playing the guitar from a very young age.

According to him, his love for the instrument started after he saw a military band perform at his uncle's burial. Owura has played in several countries worldwide and he also performed at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Scratch Studios coined the expression syncos to describe a unique style broadly described as synchronized soul and jazz.

Owura’s musical influences include the likes of Jim Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Richard Bona, Peter White, Carlos Santana and Hugh Masekela. South African legend Hugh Masekela on his part has described Owura as a fantastic guitarist.
