Samini, Kwabena Kwabena, Kaakie ablaze in “Adults Live”

“Adults Live” finally came alive last Saturday at the +233 Jazz Bar & Grill after being rained off and postponed over the Christmas Holidays.

The hush hush event finally came to pass on the 4th of January and turned out to be a massive banger worth waiting for as the suggestive concert name and bill delivered a night of pure fired up excitement and sizzling performances from all artistes with distinctively memorable moments from start to finish.

The Shabo Crew who were spectacular on the night set the ball rolling bringing back nostalgic memories with mellow tempo retro hits that got everybody singing along. Kwabena Kwabena commenced the main show with a “performance of a lifetime” as one enthusiastic patron put it.

The captivating performance lasted over an hour as fans kept asking for more. The undeniable king of this generation’s contemporary highlife put on a show of his vocal ability and stagecraft that patrons have never seen before.

The captivating performance ended with a teaser of “Adult Music” with an offstage booming voice which turned out to be an intertwined introduction of the man known best to us as Samini.

Samini’s voice engulfed the venue which was packed to the rafters, teasing an expectant audience who were kept rubber necking for about a minute till he emerged from behind, sending all into frenzy.

His mastery of the stage, command of his space and band and the versatile performance truly exemplified an artiste worthy of his Best African Act MOBO Award and MTV Africa Music Best Performer.

The performance also brought out another side of Samini showcasing a complete entertainer beyond his vocal prowess. A couple of live freestyle stints performed with the subject matter taken directly out of the immediate environment and audience fused with rhyme and comedy set the venue ablaze. “This is bound to set the tone for the next “Adults Live” event” said Mr Nortey Dua, CEO of Karl Aubyn Events, the event organiser.

As if that wasn’t enough, the introduction of Kaaki onstage performing ‘Body Flame’ alongside Samini turned up the heat with scintillating moves and gestures enough to melt or fuse any compounds in a blast furnace.

The Dancehall queen’s confident and sassy dance moves and her incredible vocals only left the audience chanting “more”, and she couldn’t help but stay for one more, a performance of her current hit with Samini, ‘Yooyi.’

Speaking to Management of Samini, it was amazing to discover that the show was not heavily publicised and was only given minimal publicity on social media. More amazing was the fact that the event still sold out and a number of would be patrons had to be turned away.

Organisers disclosed the reason behind the block on publicity being the need to nurture the new concept namely “Adults Live”, in an intimate setting. This also influenced the choice of venue, +233 Jazz Bar and Grill which sports the right ambience and discerning clientele, the perfect choice for a live outdoor experience in an intimate and relaxed setting.

The organisers also added that they have received very positive feedback from various sections of the public and have been compelled to make the show into a bigger production that will see new shades of Adult music performed live.

Anthony Pun Danning Samini’s Manager said “... Adults Live is here to stay”, and also apologies on behalf of Efya for not being able to turn up because she was ill on the night.

Adults Live was organised by Samini Music/HGF, Karl Aubyn Events and +233 Jazz Bar and Grill.
