Revive arts, drama education in schools - Senior Editor

Accra, July 10, GNA - Mr John Boafo Duah, Senior Editor at Charter House, an events and production company in Accra, has called for revival of arts and drama education at schools to mould students to become creative in life.

He said arts and drama were crucial tools in shaping the attitudes and behaviours of the citizenry adding, this underscored the need to integrate them into the school system to benefit the studens, especially the youth to enable them to lead upright lives.

Mr Duah made the call when he chaired a Literary and Arts Festival of the RIIS Memorial School at its campus at Dansoman in Accra on Friday.

The festival, which involved poetry recitals, playing of Kpanlogo, Kete and Borborbor music and drama performance, formed part of activities to mark the school's Silver Jubilee celebrations, which will be climaxed in September this year.

It is under the theme: "The youth at the threshold of a very challenging future".

Mr Duah said the revival of arts and drama would help develop the right mindset of the people needed to solving the country's challenges.

He told the pupils not to consider arts and drama as fields for less-intelligent people, but to attach seriousness to it as they would to other fields of study because it was equally important and rewarding.

Mr Kwesi Ofei Ofosu-Apea, Director of RIIS Memorial School said the school, staged the festival to enable the pupils to practicalise what they had learnt in class.

Mr Ofosu-Apea said it was also to help revive the spirit of arts and drama in the pupils.

He announced other activities lined for the school's 25th anniversary celebrations, which include home coming/family day, social responsibility/clean-up exercise, career guidance day, medical screening/blood donation, founders' durbar/graduation and thanksgiving service.
