Report early for Buruli Ulcer treatment - Dr Etuaful

Agroyesum (Ash), July 13, GNA - Dr Samuel Nyarko Etuaful, Medical Superintendent in charge of the Saint Martin's Catholic Hospital at Agroyesum in the Amansie West District, has advised people suffering from Buruli Ulcer to ensure that they report at the medical facilities for early treatment. He said it was easier treating the disease and to prevent deformities often suffered by patients if the nodule could be removed before it bursts and leads to severe ulceration.

Dr Etuaful gave the advice when he took newsmen round Buruli Ulcer wards at the hospital. Buruli Ulcer patients are occupying 70 per cent of the hospital's beds. About 75 per cent of the cases were from outside the district. He appealed to the Ministry of Health to reimburse the hospital of about 290 million cedis spent on the treatment of the patients as the hospital's finances had become overstretched.

Dr Etuaful asked for more nurses and Medical Officers to be posted to the facility by the Health Ministry to help with the workload.
