Radio "A One" re-unites Old Students in Upper East

Bolgatanga, Dec.24, GNA - Radio "A One," a private FM Radio Station based in

Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region, on Thursday brought together past students of second

-cycle institutions in the three Northern regions who reside in the Upper East for a reunion

bash. The function was also attended by the past students of the University for Development

Studies (UDS). In a speech, the Manager of Radio "A One", Pastor Isaac Yen, explained that the purpose

of the programme dubbed "Old Skuul Re-union" was meant to inculcate and rekindle in the

past students the spirit of contributing to their alma mater. It was also meant to encourage them to get involved in Peace making initiatives. He indicated that in some parts of the country, old students were contributing significantly

to the development of their alma mater which had led to the growth and development of those

schools. Mr. Yen noted with concern that most of the second-cycle intuitions in the three Northern

regions were deteriorating, and appealed to the past students to come together to contribute

to the development of their individual schools. He stated that "Radio A One" which started operating on June 22, 2009 in the region, also

serves some parts of the Northern and Upper West Regions through its transmission, and said

that as part of its social responsibility, Management of the Station would soon roll out new

programmes and Projects for the Bolgatanga. He stated that as part of the Christmas festivities the Station was offering 15 per cent

discount to individuals and business owners who wish to do announcements or adverts. The Talensi Nabdam District Coordinator of the National Service Scheme, Mr. Mike Zuri,

who delivered a peace message urged the past students to eschew all forms of violence and

not to allow themselves to be used by selfish individuals especially politicians to achieve their

interests. He told the youth that they had a role to play by ensuring that there was sustainable peace in

their respective communities since they were the future leaders. Mr. Zuri urged them to use the Christmas festivities to reflect on how they could contribute

to ensuring peace in the Region, especially Bawku. Some of the old students used the occasion to plan on how to form viable associations,

whilst others also deliberated on how they could pool resources to help their alma mater. As part of the Programme there were variety shows including peace songs and games.
