Policeman Arrested For Robbery

A policeman, Corporal Ibrahim Moro, 43, attached to the James Town Police Station in Accra has been arrested for leading a gang of robbers to rob people of their cars.

The other members of the gang are Samuel Boateng, 37, a shoe seller, Gabriel Agyemang, 25, a driver and Issifu Awudu Sadick, a car washer. They were said to have robbed four Kumasi-based taxi drivers of their cars, all of them Opel Kadetts, at gunpoint between March 8 and 15 this year. The Regional Police Commander, DSP George Asiamah told the press that one of the drivers whose car was robbed made a report to the police that two men chartered his car from Kumasi to Wiamose and back. On their return journey, one of them told him to stop to enable him attend natures call.

He entered the bush only to come out with a pistol pointing at him. The passenger then ordered the driver to come out of the car after which he got into the car and sped off.

According to DSP Asiamah, another driver, Charles Amoah also reported of his stolen car under the same circumstances. While investigations were being made into the reports, information was received that the Mamponteng police had arrested four armed robbers suspected to be those involved in the two robberies.

At an identification parade, Agyemang and Boateng were identified as the suspects involved in the two robberies. They mentioned Corporal Moro as their financier and claimed that apart from financing them, he at times took part in the ‘operations’. The other two suspects, Boakye and Sadick were also arrested after snatching two cars in Kumasi. Upon interrogations, they named Corporal Moro as their leader. They noted that after every operation, the car is sent to Corporal Moro in Accra

During investigations, it came to light that Corporal Moro who was interdiction for a similar crime he committed in 1999. He was subsequently arrested at the James Town Police barracks.
