Police arrest a 45-year-old housewife on murder

Abuakwa (Ash), April 2, GNA- The Abuakwa police in the Atwima District have arrested a 45-year-old housewife, Maame Ataa for her alleged involvement in the death of a 25-year-old woman. The suspect was alleged to have given Adwoa Nyarko, who was three months pregnant, some concoction to abort the pregnancy leading to her death.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency at Abuakwa on Tuesday, the Abuakwa District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel Akonnor, said on March 3, this year, Nyarko fell sick and was sent to the Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) hospital at Kwadaso near Kumasi by her uncle, Mr Kofi Oduro.

ASP Akonnor said while at the hospital, the sickness became very serious and so Nyarko confessed to her uncle that it was one Maame Ataa at Abuakwa who administered herbal concoction on her to terminate her three months pregnancy and charged her 85,000 cedis.

He said after the confession, Nyarko was referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) but she died on the way. Maame Ataa was therefore traced to her house and arrested, ASP Akonnor said.
