Prints come in all forms and they make fashion fun! They also make fashion statements when pulled off well
To wear animal prints
- Never wear two print outfits at the same time. Stay classy by sticking to one piece at a time.
- Do not use matching print accessories to highlight an outfit. An example is a leopard print scarf, handbag or shoes. They all make for awesome accessories in isolation, but not all at the same time.
- Keep it simple. Animal print clothes can be found in various colours - from standard brown to purple. In order to avoid a fashion mishap, steer clear of print mixing. Choose shades closest to natural animal tones when buying any leopard print clothes.
- Keep jewellery to a minimum and not in the same animal print.
- If you choose to wear any animal printed shirt or blouse, match it with neutral colours - black, beige or white.
-Use in moderation. For the zebra or leopard prints, allow layer basics in solid hues to temper the brashness.
- Mix colours and textures, rather than different prints.
- Less is more, so keep it subtle and simple. For instance, a monochrome animal print dress with a clean shape and smooth lines is stylish, while a slinky leopard print top will smarten up a pair of jeans without being overpowering.
- Leopard print look is a bold look that can sometimes go wrong especially when clothes are accessorised with the same look. Instead, accessorise your leopard print dresses with muted colours such as black, white, brown, nude, beige and even red.
To wear print pattern
Body type
Luckily, anyone can wear prints, no matter their size. Consider your body type and if you are bottom heavy, be careful of the patterns you choose. A darker shade gives the illusion of being slimmer. Petite? Go for any pattern but be careful of the cut and design. When it’s too long with too much of prints, it drowns your stature!
-Never wear head-to-toe prints!
When wearing a busy patterned dress, team it with plain coloured accessories. Your shoes and purses should not be busy either! Don’t wear head-to-toe prints! Wear only one print piece at a time.
-Tone down the patterns
To tone down a geometric print form-fitting dress, keep the accessories trendy but classic. Let the patterns on the dress do the talking. Go for chic yet subtle accessories that derive their colours from one or two of the motifs on the dress. Gold, pastel or dark blue would be perfect.
- Mind your neckline
Plunging necklines and bare shoulders can give you a lot of imagination. Since the neckline determines the use of jewellery, be as simple as you can be. Too loud and you spoil the fun of the fabric.
