Philipa upset over car prize delay

After winning TV3’s Music Music fifth anniversary singing contest about three months ago, gospel artiste, Philipa Baafi is yet to collect her prize, a brand new Tata saloon car.

Last Saturday, she thought the wait was over when she was invited to a live presentation of her car at the TV3 studios. The programme came to an abrupt end and she wasn’t given her prize.

This resulted in an exchange of words between Philipa and the producer of the show, Paa Kwesi Ackom.

Speaking to Showbiz, Philipa said “I suspect the programme suddenly coming to an end was done on purpose.”

Explaining further she said “after running for some time, the programme just stopped and I remember a guy whose name I don’t know but I can easily make out, say that he’s cut the show.

I was angry but I managed to pull myself together”, she said.

When Showbiz contacted Paa Kwesi Ackom , he said “Philipa was supposed to have collected her prize car live on the show.

Unfortunately, somewhere along the line, there was a technical hitch and the programme went off air.

“Anyone who watched Music Music last Saturday would have noticed that the programme didn’t end and these things sometimes do happen with live programmes.

According to Paa Kwesi it is not like her prize was not available.

“The car was there, she saw the keys and papers but due to the technical problem, the programme was taken off air.

I had to console the other artistes present who didn’t get the chance to perform and had plans to reprogramme it for another day.

But before I could say jack, Philipa started raining insults on me”, he added.

When Showbiz asked Paa Kwesi when Philipa would finally get her prize, he said “She can go to TV3 and collect the car. I’m not interested in putting her on the show after what she did.

It is not like Ghanaians have not seen her kind of musician before.”

The Music Music singing competition which started last year sought to reward musicians who had two successful albums to their credit.

Also any artiste with one album of hit songs was eligible to participate.

The qualified artistes were put in groups of four to perform against each other in monthly shows in which the public were given the privilege of selecting their favourite who competed in the final event.

Philipa competed alongside Christiana Love, Isaiah Kwadwo Ampong, Shasha Marley, Florence Obinim and 4×4 and emerged the winner.
