Peace concert held in Takoradi.

Takoradi, Nov. 02- GNA-A peace concert was held at the Takoradi Jubilee Park to encourage and elicit peace from all Ghanaians before, during and after the December general elections.

A large number of enthusiastic music lovers, especially the youth filled the park early to catch a glimpse of the various artistes. The crowd were entertained with poetry recitals, pieces of advice on peace and a drama on peace.

The event is being sponsored by the World Bank, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Ministry of Chieftaincy and Culture, Regional Coordinating Council, STC, Royall Ait Maroc Premier Air Production, Melody FM, GTV, Skyy TV and several radio stations in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis and was telecast live on Skyy Television. The evening was interspersed with the singing of patriotic songs.

The "peace train" had already successfully toured Greater Accra and would soon extend the programme to other parts of the country. Nana Kofi Abuna V, Chief of Essipong said each individual must use his or her inherent capacities and talents to move the nation forward. "Ghana must be first and its interests must override all political parties.

"Ghana needs peace and we all wish and want to enjoy our peace without any interruption" she added. It was unfortunate that many other African countries have plunged into war after elections but Ghana's success is as a result of freedom of speech.

"We should not allow our Christian beliefs to blind us to the truth and must work hard to promote peace everywhere' Nana Abuna added. Copies of the Ghana first peace concert were presented to some individuals at the programme.
