Passenger dies on front seat unknown to driver

Koforidua, Jan. 06 GNA - A passenger on board an Urvan bus en route to Koforidua from Kumasi died on the way unknown to the driver with whom he had occupied the front seat.

The driver of the Nissan Urvan with registration number AS8626V has just pulled up at the Koforidua lorry park to disembark the passengers but realized that one of the passengers at the front seat failed to get down.

Four other relatives in the same bus later realized that he was dead. At the time the Ghana News Agency called at the station, the Urvan bus, together with the dead and the relatives had left for Somanya. According to Mr.Kwame Adu, Station Manager of the Koforidua Kumasi Branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), the driver of the Urvan bus was not a registered member of his association or any of the accredited transport agency for his association so he could not intervene formally in the incident.

He however, said the driver whose name is still not available and the relatives of the deceased agreed to send the corpse to Somanya, the intended destination of the deceased.

Mr. Adu said information available to his office indicated that the deceased and the other family members were traveling from Sefwi area in the Western Region to Somanya and joined the bus at Asafo in Kumasi
