Paapa Yankson’s musical instruments auctioned for GHC100k

The Trumpet, flute and framed photograph of late Paapa Yankson was on Friday night auctioned for GH¢100,000 at the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) Presidential Ball.

A guitar of the late Ewurama Badu was also auctioned at the cost of GH¢30,000 to raise money for the upkeep of aging musicians in the country according to President of MUSIGA Bice Osei-Kufuor otherwise known as Obuor.

Papa Yankson who died in July this year was instrumental in the formation of the Western Diamonds Band. But two years later after joining the band, he left for the Golden Nuggets Band.

In 1975, he enrolled at the National Academy of Music, Winneba, to read a diploma programme in music and is credited for several highlife songs in the country.

Meanwhile, the event saw some of the legendary musicians in the country each receiving GH¢10,000 with the biggest shock of the night being the pledge by Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central Constituency, Kennedy Agyepong.

AB Crentsil, Nana Kwame Ampadu, Jewel Ackah, Obuoba JA Adofo and CK Mann according to the lawmaker will be receiving GH¢5,000 each month with their first payment for December 30, 2017 and are expected to be receiving same till their death
