Media personality Afia Pokua, popularly known as Vim Lady, has called on the public to pardon her colleague Afia Pokua over her controversial statements about the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

According to Vim Lady, Afia Pokua's visit to the Manhyia Palace to apologise to the chiefs indicates her regret for her actions.

Speaking virtually on Okay FM, Vim Lady urged both the public and the chiefs at the Manhyia Palace to remain calm and forgive her, regardless of the damage her comments may have caused.

“The argument about ethnicity has been very common in recent years. From the videos online, it's clear that Afia Pokua is remorseful. With the tension in the country ahead of the elections, I urge everyone, including the chiefs, to calm down because there is too much tension in Ghana with the upcoming elections.

“Ethnic issues are highly controversial, and we have all been guilty of speaking against different ethnic groups. So, from the chiefs to everyone, I advise that we calm down and forgive her,” she stated in Twi.

Background:

The controversy began when Afia Pokua, a journalist at Agoo TV, criticized the Asantehene for his perceived silence amid ongoing conflicts involving his subjects and other tribes, including the Bonos.

On Onua FM’s ‘Bribi Gye Gye Wo,’ hosted by Mona Gucci, she expressed frustration over what she views as Ashantis asserting superiority over other tribes and the Asantehene’s inaction on the matter.

These statements sparked significant outrage among the Ashantis, with many individuals, including sub-chiefs and queen mothers, openly voicing their criticism.

Angry Asante youth even staged a protest and held a press conference to address the situation.

However, after Afia Pokua apologised to Otumfuo’s representatives at the Manhyia Palace, the chiefs remained firm, stating that in the palace, an apology isn’t always sufficient in such matters.
