She has been described by many as Africa’s answer to female versatility. DEIN, a 19 year old Rapper cum singer recently released her hit single ‘JUJU & Happiness’ which has received massive airplay and pundits’ approval. OMG! Ghana.com caught up with the Black Avenue Music Protégée to hear it first. Check out the interview
OMG: You have been described as Africa’s answer to female versatility, congrats DEIN: Thank You
OMG: Briefly tell me about yourself DEIN: Dein is a Versatile Female African recording Artiste signed to Black Avenue Muzik
OMG: Why music and no other profession? DEIN: Music has been my passion ever since I could speak; it’s all I’ve known. I grew up in an environment influenced by artistes so it has been something that has been around me since childhood
OMG: Who did you grow up listening to and how did that shape your chosen career? DEIN: Basically, I grew up listening to a lot of people, from Fela Kuti to Bob Marley to Light House, Eve, Tweet, Missy Elliot & etc. So all these people kind of influenced me someway somehow. I find myself having elements of each of these people so I go back to saying I’m versatile
OMG: What is your inspiration? DEIN: My inspiration ….. ‘What’s my inspiration?’ … Life is
OMG: Though you are still young can u share one memorable moment so far in your life with us? DEIN: There was one time I had a session at a studio and I actually had no means of getting there that day, so I literally walked to the studio just because I had to get my session done
OMG: How did your parents feel when they realized you wanted to do music? DEIN: They were excited because, when I was young they actually tried pushing me into music. So it has been their preen to year ever since I was a kid, that I develop the passion for music. The news of me picking music as a career was overwhelming for them. They were happy
OMG: What will be your greatest accomplishment in life? DEIN: Haaa…. that, I can’t tell yet. God alone can
OMG: What are some of your works (music wise)? DEIN: Juju, & Happiness ft DBlack & Aj Omo Alaja – they’re my two new singles out, The Motto Freestyle with Joey B & DBlack, Bust My Brain ft Captain Planet – that was like 2 years ago. I’ve also featured on a song by Raquel that featured Lousika and I, I’m also on a track titled ‘House Party’ on D-Black’s upcoming album that also features Lousika
OMG: How does it feel being groomed by one of the best acts in GH now? DEIN: Hmmm…. that feels humbling. Very humbling. It’s a blessing
OMG: Why the song JuJu? DEIN: Haaa… I knew that was coming! Well, Juju is not necessarily the occultist perception though but rather in a love song kind of way. Referring to someone really driving you crazy. The hypnotizing kind of love, that makes you feel like you’re going insane but you like the feeling and you’re questioning why & how the person is making you feel that way. Happiness is baseline talking about life’s struggles we face in life but withstanding that, you’ll make yourself happy in any way possible you can by not making that situation define you.
OMG: Interesting, When is your album hitting Africa? DEIN: Heheee …. Soon. But not now, I want to drop an album and make sure that album makes a mark. Just like the saying goes, ‘First impression counts.’ So people should just listen to my singles for now and be patient for my album soon to come.
OMG: Which musician apart from D-black would you want to work with on any day? DEIN: Wow. Definitely Efya, Gasmilla, Joey B, Wizkid, Wiz Khalifa, Tyler the Creator and Frank Ocean. Definitely him too, and many more.
OMG: I see, so what are your hobbies? DEIN: As usual, listening to music, researching, & getting creative.
OMG: Are you having a crush on any male celeb in GH? (Laughing) DEIN: None.
OMG: In the wake of all the competition from all the hot divas in the industry how do you intend rising to the top? DEIN: Being myself. Dein is a whole package wrapped in versatility
OMG: Nice having you ‘Miss Juju’ DEIN: You’re welcome any day anytime
