Okuapeman wins Young and Wise singing competition

Akropong(E./R), June 27, GNA- Okuapeman Secondary School, at the weekend, emerged as the Eastern Regional Champions of the Young and Wise singing competition, organized by the Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG) at Akropong.

The school emerged winners with 68 points during the inter-school competition, which was on the theme: "Promoting Positive Lifestyles for Young People" and will represent the Region, at the zonal competition, to be organized later in the year.

Adukrom Secondary Technical School placed second, with 67 points, while New Juaben Secondary Commercial School, was third, with 64 points. Each of the five competing schools, was presented with a certificate, a dictionary, and souvenirs from the PPAG.

Dr(Mrs) Eugenia Danquah-Quist, Akuapem North District Chief Executive, used the occasion to urge the youth to abstain form sex as the only "sure means to protect themselves from the HIV/AIDS".

She said the use of condom does not ensure total protection. Mr Ben Yeboah, District School Health Education Programme Co-ordinator, said it was the responsibility of all adults to support the youth to overcome the problem of HIV/AIDS. June 28, 04
