Okraku-Mantey was one of the reasons I left Hitz FM – Blakk Rasta

Former host of Hitz FM’s Taxi Drive show, Blakk Rasta has disclosed that he resigned from the station not only because he felt he was betrayed but also to give Mark Okraku-Mantey the “chance to fail”.

Blakk Rasta resigned from Hitz FM after he was hauled before the Privileges Committee for allegedly claiming that about 80% of Parliamentarians smoke marijuana.

The outspoken radio presenter was unhappy about how management handled his issue. According to him, they acted as if they cared less about the repercussions. He had claimed that the lawyer given him by management to defend him was a student lawyer and felt he was not fairly treated.

But speaking on Peace FM’s Entertainment Review show on Saturday, Blakk Rasta indicated that Okraku-Mantey who had been appointed as Programmes Manager proposed that his show, Taxi Drive which aired mid-morning be scheduled for the evening.

“…when Mark assumed office as Programmes Manager, he told management he wanted to move Taxi Driver to the evening because in his opinion, it was, for want of a better word, ‘profane’. Management did not agree but he brought that suggestion back in six months so I felt I should give them the chance to succeed with his idea. I knew it would be very difficult for the bosses to take me out,” he noted.

Asked if he would have accepted to host an evening show, Blakk Rasta replied in the affirmative.

“Whichever time you give me, I will deliver… I wanted to give Mark the chance to fail,” he stated.

After eight months of resignation, Blakk Rasta says he will be back on Radio if he gets a good deal with a three-four hour airtime. He also indicated that he prefers being in Accra to any other part of the country.
