Controversial Ghanaian act Barima Sidney says he sees nothing wrong with celebrities endorsing political parties during an election year.

Ghana goes to the polls on December 7 and, like in previous elections, celebrities are expected to take sides on the political front to endorse their favourite candidates.

High life artistes Kwabena Kwabena and Daddy Lumba have joined forces and put together a song to support the campaign of New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag bearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. This is not surprising as the two highlife artistes have released similar songs during the previous elections to support Nana Akufo-Addo.

Sidney in 2008 endorsed the late Professor Mills with a song and rooted for Nana Akufo-Addo in 2012. Speaking exclusively to 3news.com, the controversial artiste stated that everyone has a choice to do whatever he or she wants.

“There is nothing wrong with celebrities endorsing political parties because we are all Ghanaians and you can choose to go the extra mile and endorse a candidate of your choice. “I believe one would only take that step if they believe in the party’s ideologies and I see nothing wrong with that”.

He warned that the major challenge is usually how people may tag or link you to a particular party and how you as the individual will be able to cope with it.

“The only question mark is whether you are ready to face the out-pour that follows because people will definitely tag you and I believe that is the only challenge”.
