The self-acclaimed first rapper of the world and Legendary Ghanaian highlife musician Gyedu Blay Ambolley has disclosed that, No Ghanaian Reggae/Dancehall Artist will be able to win the Grammys.
“Most Ghanaian musicians do not use our local beats in their music and as a result of that they do not exhibit our culture to the world. The only beat they use is what have been created by the Jamaicans meanwhile you expect to ravel shoulders with the creators. Is this possible?” He quizzed.
He explained that most of the Ghanaian artistes do not exhibit the Ghanaian culture in their music and that brought about his assertion.
This versatile,irrepressible singer, songwriter, producer and “musical-life-force” exploded on the music scene twenty-five years ago with jazzy highlife sounds called ‘SIMIGWA-DO’.
Ambolley’s early years of musical interest dates back to the age of eight, when he began playing with his father’s flute until he was able to teach himself how to play.
His formal musical training came at the age of fourteen under the apprenticeship of “Uncle Bonku” who taught him the guitar. The young music enthusiast continued to learn the rudiments of music from the late Sammy Lartey and Ebo Taylor.
