New identity for WAFU

(Veronica Commey, GNA Special Correspondent in Lagos, Nigeria)

Lagos, May 18, GNA- The West African Football Union (WAFU) has designed a new identification symbol to give it a new image and reinforce its status and objectives for more proactive deliberations and implementation of its programmes.

The new logo, which was unveiled in Lagos on Wednesday, consists of a ball decked on a three-colour semi circular basement of red, gold and green enhanced by shades of light. Dr Amos Adamu, President of WAFU hailed the process as a fine breakthrough that would project the 16 nation union and give it the desired recognition.

Dr Adamu said their aim was to revamp the union and support members to build stronger teams, capable of toppling the rest on the continent during the Confederation of African Football (CAF) organized competitions.

"One of our priorities is to ensure all our members build stronger teams that will dominate every event organize by CAF and even extend it beyond the continent."

The union is expected to put together three major competitions before the year ends.

The President said his outfit had advanced in the area of securing sponsorship for their programmes and was buoyant the outcome would exceed expectations.

Dr Adamu was convinced the new administration would deliver in the face of the level of commitment exhibited so far. He said the union would ride high on its goodwill and the passion for the globular leather that binds all together, to make it a stronger force.

The Nigerian assumed the presidency at a general assembly held in Ghana barely a month ago.
