Nenebi thrills patrons at MzVee’s Tip Toe concert

The crowd at Mz Vee’s Tip Toe Concert, which took place at the Achimota Retail Centre last Saturday, was loud throughout the night. They yelled, “Away” and boos at performances they hated and cheered on and sang along to those they loved. The only time the crowd was surprisingly silent was when Spoken Word Artist/poet, Nenebi was on stage. The crowd started clapping and cheering when the wordsmith walked on stage in his signature Wear Ghana shorts and Converse sneakers after the MC announced the next performance was very special, “trust me, very very special”, the MC said.

The crowd kept clapping and cheering as the poet who released Me, My Selfie and Eyes in September featuring Mzbel and Moesha Bodoun, stood on a stage for a few seconds before saying in twi, “I’m about to speak English so keep quite so you can hear me” amidst the noise.

It was almost radio silence till the layback but charismatic performer left the stage. Except for occasional scattered claps at some his clever lines, the crowd went from a turned up dancehall crowd to intellectual poetry crowd. Nenebi, whose debut album, See Me Naked, is scheduled to be on all major streaming and download platforms on November 11, was surprisingly the only act, who is not a big act, to receive applause after his performance, which saw him doing two songs, Just Another Silly Love Poem and My Two Girlfriends, both backed by a haunting lone bass instrumental which sounded like it was a nod to the Halloween weekend.

The Tiptoe Concert was the pre-album launch concert for B.E.T Best International Act nominee, MzVee. Other artists who joined the dancehall queen, who gave a great performance herself, were Pappy Kojo, Okyeame Kwame, VVIP, Choirmaster and B.E.T Best International Act winner, Stonebowy Burniton.
