National Theatre climaxes 25th Anniversary celebrations with ‘Agoro’

The Nation’s biggest center for drama, theatre and national events; The Ghana National Theatre is peaking its 25th Anniversary celebrations with a week-long program dubbed ‘Agoro’ to give Ghanaians a feel of culture, drama and theatre in a spectacular way.

The event which was launched at the premises of the theatre on Friday June 22nd introduced the itinerary which includes a massive showcase of rich art, music, and literature.

The Theatre in collaboration with Azaguno Incorporated and the Ohio University School of Music is producing a week filled with activites themed “Agoro” as part of the festivities.

Speaking at the launch, the Artistic Director and Director for Agoro, Nii Tete Yartey said, the Ghana Dance company has put together a special dance that seeks to unite the past and project the future of performing arts in Ghana.

“We are doing a performance that not only showcase Ghanaian culture but world performance traditions, a production that unifies the various artistic groups in the country and beyond” he said.

According to him, the combination of other artistic groups in the country will not only make the patrons enjoy the performance but also enrich the experience of the performers.

“Our performers here get the chance to interact with other performers across the globe and that gives people the chance to extend themselves in terms of performance” he added

He assured that the climax of the celebration will be fun packed as patrons will be treated to indigenous music, dance and drama by the three resident groups; the National Symphony Orchestra, The National Drama Company and the National Dance Company.

“We want to give our patrons something fresh, something they have not seen or experienced before and that is why we are calling it Ghana meets the world” he said

National Theatre’s 25th Anniversary is christened ‘Agoro’, a concept of a new African music, dance and dramatic sketches that is educational, transformational and entertaining with an added new African Orchestra Music

The climax for the celebration is scheduled for 28th, 29th and 30th June at the auditorium of the National Theatre at 7pm each day
