National Festival postponed

Sekondi (Western Region) --The National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFAC) 2002 that was scheduled to be held from 07 to 17 December has been postponed because of "inadequate preparation".

The postponement was contained in a statement from the National Planning Committee of the festival on Tuesday and signed by Madam Sophia Horner-Sam, Deputy Western Region Minister.

She is the deputy Chairman of the Festival Planning Committee. The statement said the decision to postpone the festival was arrived at an emergency meeting of the National Planning Committee to discuss preparations so far made towards the region's hosting the festival.

It said it became apparent that the Regional Theatre Complex needed to be used for the festival had not been completed and that a lot of more work needed to be done if the festival was to come on.

''Believing in the adage that 'the Best Comes from the West' it is the view of the Planning Committee of NAFAC that everything possible must be done to ensure that the people of this region receive nothing short of the best."

The statement said the National Commission on Culture, Regional Co-ordinating Council and the Western Region House of Chiefs are organizing a six-day regional festival of arts and culture.

The festival will take place at the Government Secretarial School from 10 -15 December in collaboration with the Western Regional Centre for National Culture and Good News FM Radio station. The festival would have a bazaar/exhibition component to afford all registered NAFAC exhibitors the opportunity to off-set some of their cost.
