Nana Asaase wows at ‘Wall to Wall’, MOGO & Rex Cinema

It was a packed week full of activities for young contemporary Ghanaian poet and spoken word artist, Nana Asaase and his team as they performed at three events back to back from December 5 to December 7.

On December 5, Team Asaase gave an engaging performance at Novotel Accra City Center’s ‘Wall to Wall’ art exhibition which featured the recent paintings of two painters, Ben Agbee, and Mawuli Quartey.

The exhibition was opened by the owner of the Dei Center, one of Ghana's leading art galleries, Mr. Seth Dei, after which the patrons went round to view the spectacular exhibits.

The audience comprised art lovers, Diplomats, the media and members of the general public.

The exhibition is on till January 24, 2014.

Noted for showing up in a Kente cloth worn in a unique way and his straw hat, Nana Asaase; the young man who speaks ‘mpanyinsem’ definitely delighted the patrons of Citi FM’s Music of Ghanaian Origin (MOGO).

On Farmer’s Day, December 6 at the National Theater, Nana together with his team and three staff members of Citi FM were the opening act for the evening as they got the audience into the spirited mood for the show ahead.

With a subtle blend of traditional instruments by Ayekoo Drummers, with simple songs such as Rex Omar’s ‘Fawoakoma’, Nana Asaase expertly infuse singing with punchy lines and superb stage craft.

The audience was not left out of the fun. The communal performance saw them sing along, nod and move in their seats to the authentic Ghanaian performance.

Finally, on December 7, team Asaase featured at the re-opening of the Rex Cinema in Accra with the second premiere of ‘Kwaku Ananse,’ a film by Akosua Adoma Owusu. In a special story-telling cum music melange, Nana Asaase brought Kwaku Ananse alive in the audience.

There were other performances by Ebo Taylor, Kyekyeku and This House is not for Sale.

Team Asaase flew the flag of Ghanaian culture and specifically poetry and stage craft high this past week, with their splendid deliveries.
