NAFAC 2010 comes off in Tamale on Nov. 20

Accra, Nov. 17, GNA - The Ministry of Chieftaincy and Culture would organise the 2010 edition of National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFAC 2010) in Tamale from November 20-27.

It is under the theme: "NAFAC - "Promoting Unity, Technology and Wealth Creation for a Better Ghana - The Role of the Youth in Nation Building." A statement issued in Accra on Wednesday and signed by Mr Nelson Kofi Akatey, Public Relations Officer at the Ministry, said this year's celebration would focus on job creation and skill training development opportunities for the unemployed, especially the youth to promote effective and productive grassroots participation in national development. NAFAC is a biennial cultural event celebrated to create the platform for all the 10 Regions of Ghana to showcase their culture. In addition, it promotes the socio-economic and tourism potentials in the respective regions as a driving force to investment, while presenting an opportunity for the nation to examine its cultural heritage in the context of globalisation, particularly, regarding adverse cultural influence permeating the society.

The statement said as a national cultural event, NAFAC continues to undergo changes to reflect the realities of the day. NAFAC as a flagship cultural event is an occasion to celebrate Ghana's unity in diversity, promote excellence and creativity in the arts. The Ministry, therefore, appealed to all Ghanaians to make the festival memorable by portraying their Ghanaian identity and personality to reflect the unique values of our culture. "The Ministry further wishes to advise all motorists to and from Tamale during the period of the festival to exercise the maximum caution on the road in order to have an accident free event," the statement added. 17 Nov. 10
