Musicians advised to portray worthy lifestyles in their music

Kumasi, Aug 1, GNA- Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, Ashanti Regional Minister, has called on gospel musicians to let their lifestyles reflect in their music.

He said the proliferation of gospel musicians with their messages should have served as a catalyst to change the society but said this was on the contrary.

Inaugurating the Gospel Media Consult for the Northern Sector in Kumasi on Thursday, Mr Boafo appealed to the electronic media to step up efforts at curbing indiscipline among the youth by playing music that conveyed patriotism and social virtues.

He told radio presenters not to over indulge in only the entertainment aspect of music without considering their harmful effects on society.

The inauguration of Media Consult is to help it draw up a comprehensive programme for the award of gospel musicians in the northern sector.

Mr John Mensah Sarpong, President of the Consult, said lack of transparency in the national music awards and the adulteration of gospel music in recent times necessitated the introduction of the award for the northern sector.

He said the first award ceremony would be held in January 2004.
