Living up to the billing of the Multimedia Group, Ashanti Region’s number one Akan radio station, Nhyira 104.5 FM hosted one of the most exciting sporting events in memory the Garden City on Saturday.
Corporate institutions in the region had exhilarating moments at the 2011 edition of the ‘Nhyira Corporate Olympics’, an annual invitational fun games held at the T.I. Ahmaddiya Senior High School Park.
Ten institutions registered to compete in soccer, volleyball, Tug-of-Peace, 50-meter dash, Table Tennis and Draft among others.
Amidst good food and entertainment, participants battled it out in a highly competitive environment, especially in the football, volleyball and tug-of-peace contests.
Mobile telecoms operator, Tigo, beat Team Multimedia 2:1 in the soccer curtain-raiser, but there was sweet revenge when the Multimedia giants dragged Tigo to the ground within split seconds to win the finals of the Tug-of-Peace.
Spiritus Organization won the soccer and 50m dash with their spirited performance, sparking off mocking claims from opponents the team drew special inspiration from the spiritual realm.
Local ICT firm, rLG Communication recorded the highest appearance in the games, emerging 2nd in both soccer and volleyball, and 3rd in 50m dash.
UBA won the women penalty shoot-out and also came 2nd in the 50m dash. Indomie Noodles finished tops in volleyball, with EFPAC picking runner-up spot. Other participating institutions included MTN, ABL and Ideal College.
Winning teams received giant trophies, electronic gadgets and other souvenirs as prizes. Programmes Manager of Nhyira FM, Kwabena Ampong, a.k.a Simplemahnn, said the event is part of the station’s social responsibility to promote sound health and provide a platform for workers to socialize and network for higher productivity.
He assured participants the 3rd edition will be power-packed, with increased women participation in various disciplines.
“Next year it’s going to be much bigger than what we’ve seen today. Last year it was successful and this year has been an improvement. So come next year, we expect a much bigger event, where we expect the participating teams to be more than what we saw today”, Mr. Ampong stated.
The 2011 Nhyira Corporate Olympics was sponsored by MY Ventures, Ababio Express, Ultimate Fashions and Furniture City, Global Food Center, rLG Communication and EFPAC.
Others are Dimlite Snacks and Giant Electronic Advertising, Indomie Noodles, Oman Fofor Trading Company Ltd. and Spiritus Organization.
