Most musicians can’t be relevant for 20 years like me – Nana Quame

Henry De-Mensah aka Nana Quame has disclosed that it is not easy for a Ghanaian musician to stay relevant in the music industry for two decades.

The legendary highlife musician thinks most young musicians who have been releasing hit songs in recent times cannot survive in the music industry for twenty years.

The “Awo Di Mi” hitmaker who says he has been in the music industry for twenty years speaking to MzGee of Hitz FM refused to mention names of musician he thinks will be forgotten in twenty years time but was optimistic that most musicians will be out of the industry after gaining prominence for few years..

“I’ve been in music for twenty (20) years. Wait till some of the new ones are twenty. We have seen a lot of these people who just released hit songs and passed away so I’m not going to predict.

I’ve seen people (musicians) who come with bombs (hit songs) but you don’t hear of them anymore. There are many songs you have danced to which gained much airplay at major events and radio stations but you cannot find the artiste now.” he told MzGee.

Recounting mistakes he has committed as a musician for the past two decades, Nana Quame who bounced into the industry last year after a long break with his duet with Samini titled “akye” disclosed that he should have performed at major international events instead of focusing on becoming a local champion.

“I should’ve focused more on the international scene for these twenty years. I had international shows but most of the gigs were local events like going to America and performing for Ghanaians.

I should have performed at international festivals like what Ayisoba and Afro Moses are doing” he added.
