Chairman of the Ghana Music Rights Association (GHAMRO) Rex Omari Sarfo aka Rex Omar Chairman of the Ghana Music Rights Association (GHAMRO) Rex Omari Sarfo aka Rex Omar

Chairman of the Ghana Music Rights Association (GHAMRO) Rex Omari Sarfo aka Rex Omar has said about 95% of Ghanaian artiste have no money.

According to him, most of them are just hyped to look good in the eyes of the public, but in reality they have no money, adding that very few of them can boast of GHC100,000 in their bank accounts.

The veteran musician told Bola Ray on Starr Chat on Starr Chat Wednesday that he”ll never allow his children to do music for a living in Ghana as creative arts in this country doesn’t pay.

The ‘Abiba’ hitmaker admonished musicians not to rely solely on the proceeds they make from their music but venture into other business activities to keep them going.

“I’ll advice any up and coming musician that until you start to making big money from music do something to support it on the side, otherwise you’ll get the name with no money to support it. Popularity with no money is a curse. As soon as you’re given a creative arts mind in this country if you don’t get somebody to advise you to do something in support, trust me, you’ll have a big name with nothing to support. Most of our artistes are just hyped they have no money, I can say 95% of Ghanaian artistes have no money. Very few of them will have GHC100,000 in their account. Yet, hype, hype … it’s showbiz so they have to show that they’re okay but at the end of the day they have nothing.”
