Ghanaian singer and songwriter, Akwaboah, has expressed concern about the fast-paced nature of modern relationships, stating that many young people are unwilling to go through the process of building genuine connections before rushing into love.
Speaking in a recent interview on Pulse Ghana, Akwaboah observed that today’s relationships are often built on haste rather than patience and understanding.
“In relationships now, everyone wants to eat immediately. No one wants to go through the process or really take their time to know people and fall in love. They meet the person today and the next thing is `I miss you’ and when are you coming home?’.
“One thing leads to the other and in the period of two weeks, maximum a month, the whole relation becomes like they’ve figured it all out,” he said.
According to him, the current trend sharply contrasts with how relationships were handled in the past.
“Relationships we have now are kind of some way as compared to what we heard about our fathers. They take their time to know the person,” he stated.

Akwaboah further explained that in earlier generations, relationships were often guided by family involvement and careful consideration rather than emotions alone.
“There were times when someone would take yams to the next neighbor or a friend. Like you have a son and they have a daughter, the families meet, do something small and they give the children out,” he shared.
Akwaboah continued, “It wasn’t based on whether they love each other or not. It was based on the choice they make and they were able to leave happily and give birth to our generation.”
He also highlighted the consequences of rushed relationships in recent times, stating that many young couples face unplanned pregnancies shortly after starting relationships.
“Now, people start a relationship and within a month, the woman gets pregnant and the man will run away,” he added.
