Miss Malaika 2010 Visits Orphan Aid Africa

The various responsibilities that come along with being a beauty queen, especially a Miss Malaika Ghana Queen, can never be underestimated.

Ama Nettey said a close friend of hers told her all about Orphan Aid Africa, and that was when the magical idea of a Valentine’s Day party began, adding that it was perfect than she imagined.

On Sunday, February 13, 2011, Orphan Aid Foster Care, located at Ayikuma in Eastern Region, was the final destination of the Malaika 2010 beauty queen. She was fully prepared with her team of supporters and that was when she displayed the much talked about unconditional love to the lovely but forgotten inmates.

She treated the children of about 31 in number to fantastic traditional drumming and dancing, not forgetting the assorted refreshments as well.

Seven of the children who were disabled proved beyond all reasonable doubts that they were equally privileged to be part of the Malaika pre-Valentine’s Day party.

Although two of the children were HIV positive, they were shown equal attention and love from their teachers and care takers and this made them feel at peace and at home.

In Ama’s passionate speech, she mentioned that many more organizations and individuals should endeavour to make donations to orphanages in order to make the orphans feel loved and cherished.

Founded by Lisa Lovatt-Smith in 2002, Orphan Aid Africa has been the bedrock of orphan children in Ayikuma and its environs, some of whom were either brought to the home by the police or social welfare as they had been abandoned because their parents had died or could no longer take care of them.

Ama added that love was in the air and the best way to spend her day was to celebrate it with the children.

“Your home is our home and you’ll definitely be seeing more of us and we are now one family,” she told the little ones.

She thanked those who made the party possible, saying, “I owe the success of the pre-Valentine’s Day party to all the sponsors and charter house, organizers of Miss Malaika Ghana”.

Among items that were donated to Orphan Aid Africa included MTN products, Sultana rice, Soya good fruit juice, pasta, Vikings cooking oil, refrigerators and television from Somotex LG, wax print from ATL, chicken products, Sandra ice-cream from Sucatrade, toiletries, provisions from Shoprite, Forever Easy sanitary pads and clothes.
