Miss Ghana UK to help project the Ghanaian persona

Newly crowned Miss Ghana UK says she will be focusing on how British-born Ghanaian women can contribute to boosting the country's image abroad.

18 year old student Mildred Akuba Mamikyi Afoh Edoukou was born in London to Nzema and Ashanti–Akyem parents and has lived in London ever since.

She said she was encouraged to participate in the pageant by her friend who competed in last year’s event. She said after her initial reservations she managed to pass through the audition and made it to the grand finale.

In an interview with Reindolf Ofosu on Hitz FM’s Skuup, Mildred spoke about her plans for her reign as Miss Ghana UK.

She noted that she will form a committee of young Ghanaian women born in the UK so they can discover what it means to be a British Ghanaian. This will help them know who they really are, what they stand for, where they come from and what they represent so we they can uphold their Ghanaian roots. Mildred says she loves creativity and adores black beauty.

The Miss Ghana UK contest which started about half a decade ago is aimed at raising Ghana’s rich cultural background and heritage while placing great emphasis on Ghanaian attributes and lifestyles in the UK and abroad.
