Miss Ghana 2004: Inna Mariam Patty

The question as to who will pick the prestigious title of Miss Ghana 2004 and the juicy prize of a Honda City saloon car,US$10,000,?15million worth of LG appliances,?50million wardrobe for one year, a ticket to Miss World in 2005 and ?2million monthly allowance was settled at the Accra International Conference Centre, last Saturday. After going through a swimwear segment, two question-time and a talent hunt segments and presentation of messages, Inna Mariam Patty 21, a B.Sc (Admin.) student of the University of Ghana, Legon, representing the Ashanti Region, emerged as the winner of the New Face Miss Ghana pageant.She was followed by 19-year-old Ingrid Alabi, a student of Alliance Francaise representing the Upper West Region who took away a modern set of living room furniture worth US$5,000, ?10 million, and ?7million worth of LG appliances. The third place was taken by Yvonne Hayfron 19, a B.Sc (Maths) student of the University of Cape Coast who represented the Central Region. She received for her prize an amount of ?5million, a set of 18 carat gold jewellery worth ?5million and ?5million worth of LG appliances. All the other contestants received consolation prizes of ?2million each, Revlon beauty products, Akosombo Textile Limited (ATL) products and certificates of participation. Six special Awards went to deserving contestants. Revlon Photogenic Girl Award and Miss Eloquence Award went to Inna Mariam Patty, while another two awards of Miss Beautiful Skin Award and the Sparrow Special Award for attitude, punctuality and discipline went to Yvonne Hayfron. Miss Congeniality an award given to the contestant considered the most congenial and selected by the girls went to Yvonne Okyere 19, a B.A. student of Legon who represented the Western Region while Ruth Borteley Annang another student of Legon representing the Upper West, picked the award for Miss Talent with her sketch on child Labour. All award winners received ?2million each. Finally, the prize for ATL Best Evening Gown went to Saxon Plus, designers for Yvonne Hayfron whose evening dress won the award. They will receive 20 pieces of waxprints and 4 pieces every month for a year. The event which lived up to its billing was nearly marred by some technical hitches which were sorted out eventually. As part of the package, top gospel musician Prophet Seth Frimpong performed his much-loved Mehuri So and Dada KD also got the audience applauding when he performed a couple of songs from his album.Nana Tuffour, Reggie Rockstone, Mobile Boys and Sheila Cinderella Nvannungi from Uganda also appeared as guest performers.
