Miss Africa USA Contestant Supports Education

MISS AFRICA USA contestant, Priscilla Boateng, has taken up a project to build a library and science and computer laboratories for pupils of the Danpaase Primary and Junior School at Langma, adjacent Krokrobite, in the Central Region of Ghana.

This is part of her objectives to reduce poverty in Africa via education and economic development. Last week, the beauty queen, who has been domiciled in the United States of America since she was 7years, returned to her homeland Ghana to make sure her objectives come to fruition.

She thus visited the Danpaase Primary and Junior High school to officially announce her project, with a reception for the pupils of the school. She seized the opportunity to explain her intensions to help them.

She told BEATWAVES in an exclusive interview on Thursday that she had always been passionate about helping people, especially children.

That, she claimed, was the reason she decided to be part of the Miss Africa USA pageant, which is aimed at promoting the African woman.

She said, “I have a very strong passion to help those in my community,” adding that she has been doing that since she was young.

The former student of Radford University currently doing her Masters in Business Administration at the Virginia Commonwealth University said “It was amazing how the kids received me when I visited the school. They embraced me and I was happy.”

According to Priscilla, “whether I win or not, I will continue with the project. The crown is not going to make me fulfill my promise.”

The Virginia-based young Ghanaian entrepreneur who has employed 19 people said she has a number of programmes in the USA to raise funds for her project.

Last year, she said she raised six hundred US dollars for the project. Currently, she is planning a charity banquet at Ghana’s Embassy in DC for her colleague business owners in Virginia to donate to support her course.

The Miss Africa USA Pageant is the biggest and the most publicized pageant that features African Queens in the United States of America today.

The Pageant was founded as a platform for young African women in the United States to showcase their culture, talent and beauty on a global stage.

The finals will take place from July 23rd-25th at the University of Maryland Marriot Hotel, and Conference Center in College Park, Maryland.

Priscilla believes she is the best person for the crown because of the passion she has for the event. “There are a lot of beautiful women out there.

We are all intelligent but I think the thing that sets me apart from the other contestants is my passion. It has always been with me.

I don’t need the crown to define me, however I love the finances and recognition that it will offer to help me fulfill my goals to reduce poverty.”
