Radio presenter and entertainment critic, Prince “Don” Tsegah has called actress Mercy Asiedu “ignorant” for asking government and tax officials to expand Nsawam prisons because they won’t heed their persistent requests to pay their taxes. He explained that taxation is a statutory obligation and every citizen must obey, therefore making such reckless statement on radio is unfortunate.

Mercy Asiedu is reported to have dared the Ghana Revenue Authority, the office in charge of taxation in Ghana- saying that entertainment people are ready to go to prison over nonpayment of taxes.

According to the Kumawood actress, an attempt by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to take taxes from her and her colleagues in the movie industry is rather presumptuous and thuggish.

She said officers from the GRA have been on their neck with recent case being actor Kwadwo Nkansah Lilwin who was called by the tax officers about his statutory tax responsibility while on a movie shooting set.

But reacting to the report, ferocious showbiz pundit and host of a radio gossip show, Prince Tsegah said her comments were a clear indication of her lack of understanding of taxation and the law.
