Vice President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Bessa Simons believes the media can do better educatating the public about the Ghanaian Highlife genre.

He’s confident Highlife music will remain Ghana’s indigenous and popular genre.

The musician said education on highlife can firmly give the genre the authenticity it deserves.

He told Kojo Preko Dankwa on Kasapa Entertainment on Kasapa 102.5FM last Saturday that young artistes who have refused to name their songs Highlife music though the songs have highlife content in them should be re-oreinted to accept the brand.

Bessa eulogized the likes of Bisa Kdei, Wutah and other promising artistes for still holding the forte for Highlife genre in this dispensation.

“I think the media must be up and doing in educating the musicians and the public about Highlife music. The Highlife is there and needs to be projected very well. We have to brand it well for the young artistes to accept that Highlife music is our identity.” Bessa Simons told Kojo Preko Dankwa.

Bessa is a prolific song writer, keyboardist and singer who has worked with some of the greatest names in West African Music such as Pat Thomas, Papa Yankson, Kari Bannerman, Osibisa, C.K.Mann, Ebo Taylor and Multi-talented Afro Pop Gyedu Blay Ambuley.
