Manifest to discuss rap cultures in Ghana at St. Lawrence University

Ghanaian artiste M.anifest will today October 15, be a guest at the St. Lawrence University in upstate New York, to deliver a series of talks on the ‘African Hip Hop scene’.

A statement released by the musician’s team stated the series was organised by 'Arts Collaborative' and spearheaded by Professor Madeleine Wong.

M.anifest is expected to “share his thoughts on his musical influences, rap culture in Ghana and the Continent, as well as his mixed use of language – pidgin, English and Twi - under the theme ‘Globalisation, music and the formation of complex identities in the internet era’, to an audience at St. Lawrence".

M.anifest, real name Kwame Ametepe Tsikata, was born to celebrated Ghanaian lawyer and academic Tsatsu Tsikata.

The ‘Someway Bi’ songwriter is inspiring a whole new generation of rappers in Ghana and across the world.

He recently performed a medley of his hits on the new season of BBC Africa Beats and later joined the Damon Albarn - South America - tour, which took them to Argentina, Chile and Mexico.

M.anifest performed tracks from his recently released album - ‘Everyday Robots’ at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Iztacalco, Mexico and in Mexico City at the Capital Corona festival.

An associate professor and chair of the Department of Global Studies at the St. Lawrence University, Madeleine Wong said the event is a good opportunity for knowledge sharing.

“I hope this week-long event will demonstrate the ways global hip hop music is both localised and creates new linkages across the African diaspora."
