Man shoots employer for refusing his love proposal

Bawku (U/E), Sept. 8, GNA - A man, 42, who shot at his employer for refusing to accept his love proposal has been granted a 50 million cedi bail by a circuit court at Bawku for causing harm and attempted murder. Bukari Salifu pleaded not guilty.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Dentis Atigsika, told the court presided over by Mr Alex Owusu Ofori, that the complainant, Miss Afua Serwah, 36, is a bar keeper at Bawku, who employed the accused as a butcher in her bar since 2003.

He said in April this year the accused took advantage of his closeness to his employer and proposed love to her, but Serwah turned it down, which estranged relationship between them. Inspector Atigsika said matters came to a head on August 23, when Salifu went to Serwah's house at about 2300 hours whilst she was asleep and called her out.

Salifu shot at her with a locally manufactured pistol when she attempted to open the trap door and fled, leaving Serwah in a pool of blood but neighbours who heard her cries for help rushed her to the hospital.

Inspector Atigsika said the accused was arrested when he visited his employer at the hospital the next day and Serwah raised an alarm that he was the one who attempted to kill her the previous night. Meanwhile, the victim has since been treated and discharged from the hospital. 8 Sept. 06
