Man pours acid on lover

Kumasi (Ashanti Region) - A 50-year-old man, Kofi Adinkra, has allegedly poured a quantity of acid on his girlfriend for refusing to give in to his sexual advances.

The victim, Victoria Agyinku, 37, who sustained serious burns in the face and other parts of the body, was rushed to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) where she was treated and discharged. Adinkra has been arrested by the Abuakwaa Police and is in custody awaiting investigations.

Narrating the facts of the case to The Mirror, the Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Inspector Kwame Tawiah, said Adinkra, who lives at Akropong in the Atwima District of Ashanti, has been in a relationship with Victoria, who is resident in Kumasi, for about seven months now.

He said about a month ago, at about 8:30 pm, Victoria, went to Akropong to visit Adinkra. Inspector Tawiah said when she got there, Adinkra welcomed her and about an hour later, he decided to make love to her but she refused. He said this resulted in a struggled between the two lovers but Adinkra was unable to overpower her. They both became tired after struggling for a long time Adinkra went to bed while Victoria rested on a sofa.

Inspector Tawiah said about 1:30 am, Adinkra allegedly poured a liquid suspected to be acid on the head and face of Victoria who was then dozing in the sofa. She said Victoria suddenly felt a sharp pain and realising that her skin was peeling, shouted for help and neighbours who came to her rescue rushed her to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital where she received medical treatment. Inspector Tawiah said after Victoria had been discharged from the hospital, she reported the case to the police and Adinkra was arrested.
