Man in court for duping three students

Accra, Sept. 10, GNA - A 24 year-old man who allegedly used the name of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to dupe three students of 10,000 dollars on Tuesday appeared before a Circuit Court in Accra. Alfred Dzidefo Tsyi, alias Marcus, pleaded not guilty to defrauding by false pretences and has been granted bail in the sum of 100 million cedis with two sureties.

The court, presided over by Mr Emmanuel Ankamah adjourned the case to September 23.

The prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Eric Amoako said on June 19 the accused took 10,000 US dollars from the complainant, Ernest Adom and two of his friends, James Addai and Atta Berwuah Acheampong, with the promise of securing UK visas for them. The prosecution said Alfred, who had told them that he worked with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, took them to the British High Commission and asked them to wait for him outside.

While the complainants were waiting for him, Alfred passed through another entrance gate, boarded a taxi and went away with the money. A complaint was made to the police and through investigations his house was located at Madina where he was arrested on July 22.
