A Circuit Court in Accra last week sentenced a middle-aged man to five years imprisonment with hard labour for attempting to have sex his daughter.
Kotey, the accused, was found guilty and convicted on his own plea.
Presenting the facts to the court presided over by Imoru Ziblim last Friday, Inspector Emmanuel Tawiah Boison, the Prosecutor told the court that on February 1, at about 1:30 am, a watchman at Amemo JSS near Timber Market in Accra apprehended the accused person when he caught him forcing his daughter into sex.
He lodged a complaint with the Women and Juvenile Unit (WAJU) and Kotey was arrested.
The complainant told the police that, at dawn that day, he heard a shrill cry and then an authoritative voice ordering the victim to undress. He rushed to the scene to find out what was happening and to his surprise found the accused naked, slapping his daughter and asking her to undress.
He was told by the victim that the accused was her biological father and that, that was not the first time her father had attempted raping her.
The accused pleaded for leniency saying, "the victim is my daughter so please forgive me". The judge ignored the plea and sentenced him to five years in jail with hard labour.
