Malta Guinness Street Dance Africa 2010 Launched

Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited (GGBL) on Thursday 1st April 2010 launched the Malta Guinness Street Dance Africa 2010, the biggest search for Ghana’s street dance talents.

This year, Malta Guinness is rewarding the public by giving them the exclusive opportunity to vote for their favourite dance crew and also the opportunity to win top prizes. Last year, dance crew Kriss Stars wowed the judges and took the crown at Ghana’s National Final.

Millions then watched the televised International Final in Nairobi, Kenya, where Ghana’s top dance act scored the best marks for an African crew from famous global judges. The International Final showcased dancers from all over Africa, the USA, Philippines, Holland and France.

Ama Okyere, Marketing Director of GGBL, addressing the media at the Coconut Grove Regency Hotel in Accra, said, “Malta Guinness Street Dance Africa is taking things a step further in 2010, by letting the Ghanaian public decide who goes through to the National Final and by launching a Pan-African TV series.

“For the chance to dance to the top of the world, the top crews that impress industry judges in a closed audition will be selected to take part in an un-missable competition. They will feature in an exciting, high profile series of TV episodes and live performances, promoting themselves to win a place in the nation’s heart,” she explained.

Only six (6) street dance crews will get the privilege to dance at the final and for the first time ever, the winning group will get the opportunity to win USD$35,000 at the international finals. With the greatest dancers across the continent all in one place, they will undertake different challenges for the ultimate prize of Malta Guinness Street Dance Africa champions!

Giving details of the dancing competition, the Marketing Manager of GGBL, Kweku Sekyi-Cann, noted that “by giving the public a deciding vote in Malta Guinness Street Dance Africa 2010, Ghana’s number one malt drink is relying on their support and will be rewarding them in a unique way.

Free airtime on MTN, Zain, Vodafone, tiGO and the chance to win some amazing prizes including flat screen TVs, IPODs, trays of Malta Guinness cans, ringtones and telephone wallpapers are all up for grabs”.

He explained that all a person needs to do is buy a delicious bottle of Malta Guinness, flip the crown over to get the unique number, and SMS it along with their favourite crew’s alphabet to 1983 (MTN: ZAIN: VODAFONE) or 1483 (TIGO).

Meanwhile, on the 30th of March 2010 at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi, several dance groups of six people each took part in one amazing closed-door national audition. A select team of high profile judges including Slim Busterr (choreographer and hiplife artiste), Bright Ofosu (dance champion) and Janice (dance instructor – School of Performing Arts, Legon) were in attendance.

The smoothest movers and shakers in Ghana will then be asking the public to vote for them for the chance to represent their country at the National Final on the 4th of June, 2010. Ghana’s national winner will enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime experience as they seek fame and fortune by dancing to the top of the world at the Malta Guinness Street Dance Factory.

The winning Pan-African dance crew will take home huge cash prizes, exclusive merchandise, delicious tasting Malta Guinness and a DVD of their performances on stage. Plus, they will have the opportunity to work with Africa’s best dance choreographers and professional stylists.
