MUSIGA lauds govt's initiative to promote music industry

Accra, Nov. 10, GNA - The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has lauded government policy initiative to promote the music industry to support tourism as announced by Mr Kwadwo Baah Wiredu, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning in his 2006 budget statement to Parliament on Thursday.

A statement signed by Alhaji Sidiku Buari, President of MUSIGA welcomed government's proposal under the Ghana Poverty Reduction Strategy II, to make music a growth point for job and wealth creation. The statement alluded to the fact that music was a fast growing industry with limitless potential.

"The music industry, one of Ghana's most significant cultural activities is a powerful means of enhancing the country's identity and distinctiveness, while simultaneously creating employment, developing human skill and generating capital and social cohesion," the statement said.

The statement pledged MUSIGA's total support for the government to ensure the realization of the goal.
