MUSIGA Hunts For New Officers

The term of the incumbent governing body of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) would soon come to an end as new officers are being hunted for to steer the affairs of the organization.

On November 14, the union would be holding its quadrennial delegates? congress at Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The congress, among other things is expected to be used to elect competent and committed officials to hold office for the next four years.

Among the positions they would vie for is the MUSIGA president, currently held by Alhaji Sidiku Buari, first and second vice presidents, held by Diana Akiwumi and Edinam Ansah respectively.

The other positions are general secretary and welfare officers.

According to a statement issued by MUSIGA, nomination forms would made available for qualified members at the union?s headquarters from July 3 to August 30. Qualified members would be expected to return the forms by September 28.

Meanwhile, MUSIGA has recently held what it calls a family meeting in Accra to thrash out some differences among musicians.

The meeting, presided over by the current president, Alhaji Sidiku Buari, sought to bring on board factional musician groups like the Ghana Society of Composers Authors and Publishers (GHASCAP) and the Song Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG).

It brought musicians as Rex Omar, Kojo Aquai, Amandzeba Nat Brew, Dr Sogah and Gyedu Blay Ambulley together.

These musicians expressed their appreciation for the meeting and pledged to work together with MUSIGA to ensure all musicians work with a common voice.

Speaking in an address, Alhaji Sidiku Buari stressed the need for the various musician groups to create a common front to pursue their interests.

He said divisions within their ranks were costing them a lot, adding that some people have taken advantage of their disunity to engage in piracy, which is affecting them financially.

He urged the various groups to forget the past and work together with MUSIGA, which is their umbrella body, especially in this Jubilee year.

?The continued disintegration of their front was a disincentive to progress,? he explained.
