Anji and Leety became the first casualties of the third season of the MTN Hitmaker this weekend, when they couldn’t garner enough votes and failed to impress the judges.
The two were in the bottom three alongside the group, Ink, but judges Ofie Kodjoe and Hammer saved the group, sending the two contestants home.
“This is not the end of the road for me at all. I believe I can move on from here and do bigger and better things for my career now. I appreciate the support and comments from the judges; I will put them to good use,” Leety said.
Anji, who put on a brave face, said even though she was disappointed, she was leaving no stone unturned in her pursuit of a professional career in music.
“I will use this platform to launch myself. I felt I could have done better than this. I give thanks to God and everyone who has supported me to this level, and I will come back big- time into music.”
The contestants thrilled the judges and fans with some quality rap, gospel, dance and traditional tunes before it came to the crunch moment when the two unfortunately had to go home.
This weekend will see another two or maybe one contestant go home, and the remaining contestants are trying to outwit each other so as not to face eviction at all.
“This is the moment when it gets interesting because any slip up and you are out of the door. Now these guys (contestants) have to lift their game and impress the judges while making a point to the audience who will be voting for them. The ball is now in their court,” Bessa Simons, a judge, said.
The guest judge on the night was rapper Okyeame Kwame, who noted that the Hitmaker platform is one that is truly unearthing great talents. He cited the exploits of Koo Ntakara, Season 2 winner, and Mariam Afari, the first runner-up of the first season.
“I am happy to be a guest judge and I am also impressed with what the MTN Hitmaker is doing. Koo Ntakara and Miriam are living the life they have always dreamed of and doing what they love. If you work hard, the rewards never stop streaming in,” he said.
This weekend will see three wild cards – who couldn’t make it into the final 12 but can still possibly be brought in to compete with the contestants – perform.
