Lydia Forson ‘In the Cupboard’ of Desmond Elliot

A few minutes spent watching Desmond Elliot’s new flick, ‘In the cupboard’ and I got stuck at the technical appropriateness and freshness of the story. This was a movie void of all the noise and halo associated with regular Nigerian movies with an undoubtedly drama inspired story.

Starring the likes of Ini Edo, Uti Nwachukwu, Lydia Forson, Morris Sesay, Biola Williams and few other actors, the movie tells the story of a family’s struggle for oneness after the death of their breadwinner and the angle from which this was written, sets it apart from other movies with similar themes.

‘In the cupboard’ is set in the modern city of Lagos and takes its audience through the journey of a family’s attempt to hold on to the love and unity the death of their father had taken away.

The Desouza family, popular for its wealth and power is being faced with the threat of dissolvement courtesy of the children’s desire to amass a huge portion of the wealth. The six children all had their eyes on the big share of the properties so did the mother, and the combination of their plots and plans is what makes the play interesting.

The antics of an over ambitious eldest son, played by model-actor, Uti Nwachukwu is met by his homosexual sister, Tricia who found a lover in the family’s lawyer, making her ride to the cake, an easy one. This would however not turn out to be as easy as she thought as her younger brothers, equally had their eyes on the cake, with the youngest child, Tara left with only a camera to record the events.

In the Cupboard is produced by Caroline Danjuma and directed by Desmond Elliot. The movie will start showing in Cinemas on Friday, August 17, 2012 starting with the Silverbird Cinemas, in Lagos.
