The legal representative of the late Daddy Lumba’s maternal family, together with the organisers of his “Celebration of Life” event, has disclosed the date on which a ruling will be delivered regarding an injunction application filed by Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu seeking to halt the programme.
Speaking to the media after proceedings at the Accra High Court on March 18, 2026, the lawyer explained that the hearing of the injunction application had originally been scheduled for March 23, 2026.
However, following the government’s declaration of that date as a public holiday, the legal team representing the organisers, led by Papa Shee, filed a legal process known as an abridgement of time.
In simple terms, an abridgement of time is a request made to the court to shorten the usual timelines in a case, so that a matter can be heard sooner than originally scheduled.
This is typically done where urgency is involved.
“Because it is in our interest for the court to determine the matter as quickly as possible, we filed a process known as an abridgement of time, which essentially means we requested that the hearing date be brought forward from March 23,” the lawyer said.

He added that after filing the application, the legal team duly served the process on the lawyers representing Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu, in line with court procedures, which require all parties to be formally notified.
However, counsel for the Abusuapanyin instead applied for the matter to be adjourned to March 26, 2026.
The organisers’ legal team opposed this request in court, arguing that such a date would be impractical.
They explained that if the ruling were delivered too close to the scheduled event dates, it could leave the organisers with insufficient time to adequately prepare, particularly if the decision goes in their favour.
Following arguments from both sides, the court indicated that it would instead hear the matter on March 25, 2026.
Daddy Lumba’s maternal family’s lawyer further stated that the court has assured both parties that a ruling on the injunction application will be delivered on March 25, based on the affidavits and legal arguments filed.
“The court further assured that when it sits on March 25, it will deliver its ruling based on the processes filed by both parties,” he added.
The injunction application stems from an announcement made on February 2, 2026, by Papa Shee, who disclosed plans to organise an event in honour of the late Highlife legend.
The event, titled “The Celebration of the Life of Daddy Lumba,” is scheduled to take place on March 28 and March 29, 2026, in Accra.
Subsequently, Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu filed an application at the Accra High Court seeking to restrain, or legally prevent, the organisers from going ahead with the event.
