Local film content buyers only interested in revenue sharing – Peter Sedufia

Ghanaian Filmmaker, Peter Sedufia has lamented lack of local online streaming platform as a reason for the decline in films produced locally.

The OldFilm Productions Chief Executive Officer averred that local content buyers like the television stations can only offer film producers unforeseen revenue sharing.

According to the multiple award-winning Filmmaker, though Ghana has few online movie streaming platforms, they are unable to buy and pay creators for their contents.

“Please, spare me the reminder that Ghana also has few online streaming platforms. Of what essence is an online streaming platform that cannot buy and pay creators for contents?” Sedufia asked

To him, most movies have been pirated owing to the fact that almost all online streaming platforms are insecure.

Sedufia in his submission posted on his Facebook timeline suggested that local online streaming platforms should pay producers an outright amount to gain exclusive right to show or upload contents on their platforms.

“The best they offer is revenue share, which is mostly not realised. If we were interested in unforeseen revenue split, we would upload the contents on YouTube and keep all the little revenue generated.

“Almost all online streaming platforms are insecure. You upload your contents, then, it’s pirated and uploaded onto free to view platforms. That’s why online platforms should pay content creators for their works well, just in case the content is pirated from their sites, the owners can console themselves with the little outright payments.” Peter Sedufia posted on Facebook

He also indicated that lack of proper policy to regulate the film industry is another issue collapsing the Ghana movie industry.

His work as a director and producer includes award-winning movies like Keteke, Sidechic Gang, Master, 3 Maids, Away Bus – a joint production with Kofas media and Aloe Vera.
