Let’s settle MUSIGA election row out of court – Trigmatic

Trigmatic Trigmatic

Rapper Trigmatic, who is a member of the election committee of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has advised the Greater Accra regional chairman of the union, Ras Caleb Appiah Levi, who is also an aspiring president of the group, to drop his court case against the MUSIGA poll for an out-of-court settlement.

Speaking in an interview on The Big Show on Class91.3FM on Saturday, 20 July 2019, Trigmatic said solving the issue internally will be the smartest move.

“I think that since the case is in court, it’s really difficult. I cannot even suggest anything regarding the election right now but what I will say is, internally, we should bring it home; that will be the smartest thing to do: bring it home, deal with it internally,” he said.

“Let’s make sure that the right things are done, all the parties involved are happy and then we give a time or a day … enough time and date to do what needs to be done and execute it quietly and peacefully,” he advised.

The ‘My Life’ hitmaker suggested that the union educate its members on the election process.

“And I think members should be reoriented as to the role of the union, the role of the executives and the election process…and I think that everything will be fine, we just need to bring it home”.

On Tuesday, 9 July 2019, Ras Caleb released a statement indicating that he had sought an injunction from the High Court to stop the MUSIGA election.

He mentioned that he was not happy with how election issues were being handled by the Election Committee.

“As an aspirant, I have been watching the electioneering process with keen interest and I have come to the realisation that there are a lot of breaches in the electoral system, especially from the roadmap to the current situation of the voter’s list/notice of musicians,” he stated.

In the writ of summons, he is praying the court for a declaration that the current voter roll compiled by the Election Committee of MUSIGA is not credible and the same cannot, in its flawed state, be used for the conduct of the forthcoming 2019 National Executive Committee MUSIGA election.

He also wants the Election Committee to “compile a fresh, authentic and credible register.”
